Hi, I’m looking to use EE to create a website that will offer membership and have only certain members with permission access to some areas. I’m pretty sure this is easy from what I’ve read.

What I need to do is if I create a sister site with another installation of EE, will it be possible to have these same members log into it without having to recreate member accounts?

Hi, althanis - welcome to the forums!

If these are separate installations then there is no way to share the membership database.

However, if both Sites are owned by the same person or company, then you could use the Multiple Site Manager, which would share the membership database.

Okay I’m trying to understand how Multiple Site Manager works. To be able to use it to manage members across multiple sites, do I need to have it when I’m creating the first site?

    Hi, althanis -

Did you watch the screen-cast?  That should help.  What you do is build your site in ExpressionEngine.  Then, when you want to add another Site, buy the MSM and install it (if you have not already) then use the Sites tab to create a new site.  Do remember that all Sites must have the same owner, though. =)

Watch the screen-cast. You can also try out the back-end of the MSM with the 30-day Hosted demo. =)

Hi Lisa, my connection right now isn’t that fast so I appreciate the textual response 😊 I have a pretty good idea now, thanks for the help!

No problems, I don’t mind explaining - I just find the screen-cast to be very enlightening, helps a lot. =)
