Letting members post links to their youtube videos via a SAEF isn’t much of a technical issue. Of course, when a member submits the link, I can check them before the entry status is set to open. However, what if a member changes their content later?

Can a user upload a different video to youtube and later change its content without a change in URL taking place and thereby get around me reviewing the new content?

I suppose they could, what I would do is use a flagging system whereby like allot of sites they can flag content that may be inappropriate. If you get a persistent user then of course they can be banned.

Of course they could just re-register and then the whole cat and mouse begins again.

    hi dlogic,

yes, I suppose I will have to play the game one way or another. I just haven’t really played with youtube much. Any idea whether the user can replace an uploaded youtube video and use the same URL?

Out of interest I have just tried (I have an account but I’ve never uploaded anything). You can edit video info but critically not change the video. I think you can safely assume that every video uploaded has a unique URL. The only thing that can be done which could be used maliciously is you can “remix” the video. In the words of Youtube:

Sometimes, instant gratification video is just the thing you need.

If you’ve ever uploaded from your mobile phone, wished for an easy way to add titles and transitions, or just wanted to remix your own videos, Remixer is a great place to play. It lets you assemble your new video in an easy drag-and-drop time line and then publish it right back to YouTube. Your original videos will stay exactly the same.

Give it a try! Click the “Try Remixer” button to get started.

Reading that though it looks as if it creates a seperate copy with a new unique URL.

I can’t be certain of course so hopefully somebody else will have a bit more Youtube experience
