    Hi Jan,

Thanks for the compliment, always welcome of course!

I don’t know exactly which monitor it is, I’ll have to take a look in my studio on monday. But on the dell site I’d take a look at the vertical viewing angle, some mention 160 degrees vertical angle which is OK. I have a non reflective screen, less cool, but more reliable to me.

Out of curiosity, do you see much color shifting as you alter your head position?

Looking at it 90°, everything seems fairly balanced from top to bottom (looking at solid colours) though there is a very slight gradient in the last top 4/5cm of the screen where the colour gets a little darker.

Looking at the screen from below it becomes visibly darker quite quickly, whereas looking from above the angle is a lot greater before it becomes visibly lighter. I don’t often use a trampoline when working at it though, so no real bother there.

When these monitors first came out they got amazing reviews from top industry reviewists and were hence in high demand. To fill that demand Samsung apparently sub-contracted the manufacture of the LCD display components out, and unfortunately that means that not all 226BW’s are the same. There is a way to tell who manufactured the display by some secret OSD menu button tapping. Mine definitely wasn’t made by Samsung, so perhaps the very slight nuances I have with it are because of that.

Haha, everyone who has read this thread, is jumping up and down in front of his monitor now

Anyway, the Dell I’m using is only 300 euro and is the 2005FPW, currently replaced by the E207WFP.

Under normal circumstances there is of course no real difference, but I’ve had a case where someone here did not remove a light rectangle because she just didn’t see it..

Have you heard about the crucial problem that only reveals itself while standing on your head in front of the monitor? It’s made clearer by just using one arm…

Go on - you know you want to….

    😉

noregt - did you mean the Dell 207FPW or the Dell 2007FPW?
    - looking at the reviews the former is fairly mediocre, but the later is rated highly

BTW I found a very good technical review site x-bit.com - the guy goes into monitors in significant detail, and clearly knows his background info.  Strangely, monitors come under the ‘other’ section!

FYI here is his review for review for monitors in autumn 2007, which covers some of the monitors talked about above.

I meant 2007WFP, which is the follow up of mine 2005WFP, but this might no longer be availabale… Don’t know which one is the proper replacement.

Good review form xbit; the difference apparently lies in the use of the cheaper TN matrix technology vs the better VA and S-IPS matrix.

EDIT: from what I see at the Dell site, right now the 2208WFP is the best choice, with the same technology (I think). That is also a bit better in size at 1600 pixels. Crazy that they don’t mention when this technology is used or not!
