If you have to make mockups for clients like I do, you often have to include UI elements as the would appear in form elements. One of the most time-consuming and boring processes I have when trying to translate my ideas to Photoshop/Illustrator is creating reasonable approximations of form elements or inserting ‘shopped screenshotted UI elements. In a rush to just get them done, they often look awful and detract from the overall design.
I did a little searching for transparent-backgrounded and/or vector versions of generic UI elements and, aside from ripping apart a GTK theme, I couldn’t find anything that met my needs. In the post-New Years lull, I had some time today to whip up some less ugly UI widgets closely based on the Graphite theme for OS X specifically for use in web site mockups, and I thought I’d pass them along:
