Dynamic Mailing Lists?

Is anyone aware of a mailing list service/script that is capable of sending out emails that partially contain dynamic data? In an ideal world I’d like a client to be able to type in a few sentences introducing the email and then have the main content consist of the latest X entries from an EE weblog. It sounds like a relatively simple requirement, but I’m struggling to find anything that fits the bill.

I’m assuming that an ‘RSS to email’ service would be the most likely option (using an RSS feed from the EE blog), but there seem to be a fairly limited number of services currently available. Nourish looks like it may eventually do the trick, but it currently feels very much like a beta and there doesn’t seem to be any way of manually putting some non-RSS content in unless it’s part of the template itself.

Am I missing something? Please say yes. Suggestions would be much appreciated.

The Multiple Newsletters Extension lets you send a newsletter based on an EE template, so it grabs the latest content dynamically. Not sure what happens if you edit the result manually when sending the actual email, but worse case you could tell the client to post their blurb in a non-public weblog and pull the latest entry from that in as well.

Superb, I’ll have a look at that. Thanks Luke.

Edit: This looks like an excellent solution, so thanks again for pointing it out. With a display:none on the pre-populated message field and a basic additional ‘Newsletter’ weblog for managing introductory text it should be possible to have an extremely simple system enabling non-techies to generate dynamic HTML emails through through a fairly nice interface.

No worries at all! The “Multiple Newsletters Extension” name doesn’t quite convey all it does - it should be the “Multiple and/or Dynamic Newsletters Extension” or something, haha 😊
