You know, I would have thought that EllisLab would want their product to be used as much as possible. If I need to hire a developer to help me with a little coding, then why should I have to buy credits to do so? Every other CMS has free job boards… seems a little crazy to me.

    I’m not following?

You’re free to post in the Job Board forum - http://ellislab.com/forums/viewforum/47/ although a budget of $0 probably isn’t too appealing to the freelancers and developers out there?

What is is exactly you are looking for?

no “new thread” button appears. instead, all I see is a “purchase credits” button.

Ah I have to admit I wasn’t aware of that.

The community is one of the most active CMS communities around so usually any questions get answered quickly and there is plenty of people who can post for support.

Then again, if you are looking for web development $20 wouldn’t even register on the budget of even the smallest project.

The Job Board requires credits to prevent spamming and insure that posts are from individuals who have consider the associated costs and responsibilities associated with hiring a consultant.  The theory is the same as requiring membership before commenting, or placing the comment form three levels in versus on the first page. Basically, you encourage those who have meaningful things to say, and who aren’t just spouting off. (My thoughts).  The job board has less traffic, but to the best of my knowledge every job is legitimate and the posters are less likely to feel shock when getting a quote from a qualified developer.

Someone from the EE staff, did write up an informative post regarding the issue, you could probably search on Job Board to find it.

Vinci, the other (free) option is to go through the listing of people on the Professional’s Network, get a few names, check out a few sites, and contact a couple of those pros who you feel are a good fit.

To speak just for myself, I don’t look at the EE job board because my lead time always seems to be at 2-3 months for new work, and almost all of that work is generated by people coming to me - and much of that traffic is through the Pro Network page.
