I am looking for a PHP based CMS (or blog system) that must support all of the following:

    1) static output (like Movable Type)
    2) remote publishing through FTP, SFTP or SSH (like Blogger)
    3) Different templates for different parts of the system (ie: category
template, main index template, search template, like Movable Type
does; Blogger seems to just have one template)
    4) Free (or low price for multiple installations)
    5) One central installation for multiple sites

    Any suggestion?

    Thanks!

You might want to try this CMS I’ve used before.
It may not do ALL you are seeking, but pretty darn close! And there are many available plugins, modules and extensions.

    Good Luck!

I agree with Jammo. The CMS that he mentioned is wonderful. I’d give their “Core” version a try.

Just as a note, Tiger does own an EE license. Tiger, it is a bit awkward to ask for other CMS options in our forums. You’re certainly welcome to but if you’re looking for other CMS options (hey, sometimes EE isn’t appropriate, no harm in that) you might start here.

Just a word of caution, Tiger: I used to use a “free” CMS, but virtually every feature that was desirable was available as an “add-on”, that is, it was created by a different developer, and I was constantly at the mercy of whether or not all these developers were keeping up with the “core” updates as to whether my site kept breaking or not. The personal time spent updating ten or so such “add-ons” alone was strenuous and stressful time spent, with often poor documentation. What a runaround!!

If my time was worth nothing, I could call that CMS “free”. But I value my time more than that now.
