Okay so I think what I’m going to do is try out a different Linux distribution once a month. I’ll wipe it clean, install a new distro, use it for a month, wash, rinse, repeat. This will allow me to be able to judge all of the distributions with more accuracy than I can do now. My first love is with Ubuntu. Ubuntu was the first distribution I could stick with and finally ween myself off of Windows (Ubuntu 5.04). Prior to that, I had tried many different distros, but I guess I just wasn’t ready to make the full switch. I’ve been HAPPILY using Ubuntu now for the past couple of years and haven’t even thought about looking back (to Windows). However, I’m still curious about other distros, many of which I have tried but have always come back to Ubuntu, and I’m a fan of Debian based distros in general.
So, bye-bye Ubuntu 7.04… so sad to see you go, good friend. I’m going to see if I can stick with OpenSuse 10.3 for a month. My main beef with Novell, of course, is the affair they’re having with Microsoft… so I need the OpenSuse experience to help to solidify some of my dislike for the distribution in general  Actually, I hope I’ll like it…
Haven’t decided which distribution I’ll do next month…. POSSIBLY Fedora. Fedora Core 1 was really the first one to spark some real interest in it all. I’m not one to claim to be a hardcore Linux guru. I like it because of the FOSS aspects and because it’s “different”. I like to USE my OS, not hack at it to get it to run.
So anyway, typing this out on my Ubuntu development server while OpenSuse 10.3 is finishing the install. Shouldn’t be much longer.
