Alright, im designing a website that is selling an array of items (say, fruit, shirts, dvds). I would be grateful if someone could explain to me the best way to create categories for fruit, shirts, and dvds, and then have the items (apples, oranges, black white t-shirts, horror dvds, etc). What im asking pretty much is i have no idea how to use categories after looking at the manual. I would want the product page to have icons for Apples, DVDs, and Shirts, then they click on that and see all of the subitems. If someone could explain that i would be grateful. Thanks!!!!

    *Edit
Hey all! My second question is that i find myself making a template to view all of the weblog entries from a givin weblog, then another template to view individual weblogs, but im discovering that there is some way i can use a certaintemplate/1 syntax to view a certain entry from a certain weblog. How does that work? Im having great trouble laying out a site, but i want to do it as modular as possible ( since ee is so flexible it would be a waste of a CMS). If i didnt word this well let me know, thanks.

With such a diverse set of products you are probably not going to do it all with categories. More than likely you’ll need to use separate weblogs and categories. Maybe this Wiki article will help… Categories or Weblogs

Edit: I see you added to your question after I responded. Yes, you need to understand how EE uses URLs to trigger what content gets displayed. It’s kind of a key thing. And, it sounds like you somewhat figured it out.

*rubs eyes*, i think what im practically asking, is if there is some method to see if the url is asking to display a template, or display a weblog using the template (the different between index.php?/comments and index.php?/comments/1. Kind of like an if statement kinda thingy!?!? Does this make sense. Because my setup now uses 2 different templates to do that, and if there was a way to combine it into one it would be cool, and i would obviously feel cooler. 😊 Thanks all. This community is pretty awesome.
