I think I just managed to crash the PHP on our server.

Known culprit: I update the search page and managed to forget a closing curly bracket on:

    {exp:search:keywords

did a search…..and nothing using PHP works anymore. All other stuff works OK. Static Pages (Apache), FTP, SSH all seem to be working OK. But any PHP script just stalls.

Any idea what the problem could be? (I did contact the server support, but that may take a while)

asozzi, what are the symptoms you’re seeing?  This sounds much more like a server problem; I mean, sure the template itself wouldn’t render, but updating the tag should fix it. I just tested this on my site and nothing “crashed”.

Hmm, a restart of apache did solve the problem.

I’m not going to try it again though… But for posterity it was:

    SunOS 5.10
    PHP:  4.4.1
    MySQL: 3.23.49
    EE:  1.6.1 (latest)

And any PHP script would NOT run at all (i.e. no entry to the CP not even PHPinfo).
Only PHP on my account seemed to be affected and after a restart it works nicely again.
Well, it certainly gave me a scare for a bit.

    Thanks for the help

Yep- couldn’t replicate a crash either.  But I can’t blame you for not wanting to test it again 😉.  Glad the restart shook things out and you’re back up and running.
