Today we cover The IT Girl’s Guide to Blogging with Moxie, a new book by Kathy and Joelle (collectively they are the powers behind Moxie Design Studios).

The video also has an unplanned “guest star”. And yes, the appearance of a small, cute child is not a marketing-weasel ploy but the result of me being placed on “Daddy duty” during the time I usually create these things. It was a guest star or no video and after missing several weeks I wasn’t going to miss today.

As I mentioned in the video I am totally biased in recommending this book as I am a Moxie fanboy but I would like to think I’d have recommended the book, champagne or not. Kathy and Joelle are also members of the EllisLab Advisory Board. Still, most people who bothered to review the book on Amazon seem to agree with me and I’m betting they didn’t get a glass of bubbly from the authors.

Wait a minute… you’d never had champagne?!  Well, I’m glad we were able to remedy *that*!

Its true. The champagne you sent to last year’s SXSW was my first.

Glad to help. Hope you enjoyed it and we didn’t even have a book then so we weren’t bribing you. 😛

We’ll be at SXSW this year, though… both of us! So we’ll get to meet finally. Hooray!

Hmm…I could get that book for my wife but not sure what would happen if a Boyink suddenly got moxie… :gulp:

Looking forward to meeting all of y’all (said with the nasal mid-western fake Texas drawl) in March.

Good choice on the office chair - keep us W. MI folks working! 😉

My chair was an investment in my back… I think its literally saved me thousands in doctor bills.

Have a matching chair (six years now) and it’s the best office investment I’ve ever made.

Loved the guest star!  She looks like a natural.

I have that chair too and it’s great, but the armrest suck.  They will not stay in position almost rendering the chair useless.  I have the last generation.  Does anyone know if this is fixed with the new generation of chairs?

Edit/Add:  My investment in the chair was for my back too.  I believe a nice desk is next, but ouch, the price!

I am still using a metal folding chair.  😉  I have used it for years.

Congrats on the book.  It is so… girly!  I would have to pick it up while my friends aren’t looking.

Can you make an alternate version with a dude flexing on the cover?  Drinking a beer?  Perhaps riding his Harley?

Thanks Leslie and Sofia!  Can’t wait to see you guys at SXSW in ‘08!  With more champagne I hope.

I think Joelle and I should design an extra cover with a guy flexing on it that wraps around the book.  *flex*

Congratulations to Joelle and Kathy—they do fantastic work.

Just to demonstrate, Joelle’s design (using EE of course) is the foundation of my wife’s new Web site, Woman With Portfolio.

I’m sure Joelle can’t believe how long it’s been since she designed this site and it’s actually up and running—she wrote a book in the interim. But it’s working now and getting members. (I won’t go into the details about why this has taken so long Joelle, but it didn’t have anything to do with technology-related issues.)

Leslie, we met at SXSW this past year, and I hope Ellis Labs comes back to Austin in 2008. I’ve been at nearly every SXSW Interactive since it was started by my friend Dewey Winburne about 15 years ago, but during UT’s spring break in 2008 (same time as SXSW), I will be lecturing on digital media at the University of Porto in Portugal, where I will be teaching next summer.  For what it’s worth, I almost always wind up telling people who come to my lectures about EE.

Joelle, when you make a lot of money with your book you can look at Carol’s Web site to see how to invest it. You’re already a paid member. . . .  😉

See you at SXSW this year.

Well, this will be one of the few years I won’t be there. I’ll be in Portugal. But Carol should be able to go to SXSW, because she isn’t coming with me. We’ll both be going back to Portugal in July, when my “real” teaching job starts—the March trip is just a lecture.

Never been to Portugal before, so I’m looking forward to it. I hear Lisbon is pretty cool.
