    You’ll find loads of posts about IDE’s, text editors, web server platforms etc if you search through the forums. Personally, I use NuSphere PHPed 5.2 Professional and XAMPP. PHPed has an integrated debugger (took a bit of work to get it running with CI, but now debugging is *easy*), and XAMPP provides an Apache/MySQL development environment.

    Well there are lots of templates available for different IDEs. I use zendstudio and you can get the template from the wiki page. It is of real help. I think walesmd has created a a template for notepad++ which u can search in the forum.

    Good Day !!!

    While DreamWeaver can be just as good as any solution, in fact very good one. Another IDE would be Aptana, which does pretty good job. Also, I especially like Komodo Edit, which is free, same as Aptana. I think this last one is specially well suited as it recognizes methods within class and can speed up your work.
    Download it here:

    He’s looking for an IDE not a Text Editor. I agree TextMate is fairly snazzy but it doesnt have built in SVN, FTP, Debugging, Class navigation, DB management, etc.

    Lol, thanks Tobben, I’ve been using Textmate for ages and didn’t even realise there was a CI Bundle! 😛

    There is no such IDE/editor which specially intigrated with CI, However you can use a editor which can used to debug your application, highlite codes, view class-functions-variables, explore files to acclerate your development. There’s many such editors/IDE like zend studio, eclipse, nusphere phped, dreamwerver, editplus etc. Try free version and then buy whichever you find suaitable best according to your needs.
    If anyone find a editor or IDE specially designed to develop applications in CI framework, plz post it. Thanks

    Eclipse, with the right tools (PDT, Subversive, etc.) is a pretty neat IDE if you’re on Windows (on Linux, it feels sluggish). By putting the whole CI framework in your project, the PDT will automatically outline all the classes/functions; it’ll update its auto completion cache, and you’ll be able to type $this->, ctrl+space and have access to all the possible methods.

    Note : It runs on Java. Long start-up, a bit bulky, but it’s got tons of features.

    Hey guys I dont know if what Im looking for is an IDE per se…. I just want my text editor to be able to give me a dropdown of all the methods/attributes Im able to access after I type $myclassvar-> ... also, inside views it sometimes is hard to remember the order of the parameters for html_helpers so some kind of help when typing parameters would be awesome…. Im currently using notepad++ with default configuration so I get non of that… I have stated learning asp.net mvc and its defnitely not as good an feature rich and easy to understand as codeigniter but the code editing in visual studio is definitely much easier than in notepad++....;
    any reccomendations?

    You may use Codelobster PHP Edition as your code editor.
    It has CodeIgniter autocomplete and context help exactly.
