Has anybody uploaded demo video of their CI app to YouTube? It seems to be very difficult to get the detail needed for video of text on a computer screen, to look good on YouTube, because YouTube processes the uploaded video very heavily before they post it.  If anybody’s gotten a good-looking YouTube video of their CI app, please post a link here, and tell how you did it.

I use Revver personally - if you bump your desktop resolution down to something ridiculous (800 x 600, 640 x 480) you can get a pretty good level of detail on there.

Thanks for the tip about desktop resolution. Are there any example videos you can link to? Also, does Revver permit private videos (so I can try out a few approaches before making the video public)?

I just tried out the desktop resolution approach - I dropped it from 1920 x 1200, which I had been using, to 960 x 600, and redid one of the shots. I uploaded it to YouTube, but, it looked just like the shot I’d made using the previous resolution.  Am I missing a detail of how this approach is used?

We use vimeo for our video. Vimeo not only allows you to support HD video, but you can also set your videos to private to control who can access them.

...and yes, it is also free.

Vimeo looks great, and by following their directions, I reduced the file size greatly. But, their policy says that the following can’t be posted:

    > It is not a commercial, infomercial or other type of advertisement.

...and my software demo, is an ad. Rats!  Is there another hosting service people are using for this sort of thing?

I just upload the .mov and let people watch it…it looks amazing. Although bandwidth and load time would be an issue on large files.

Do you find that a lot of people can’t view an .mov file on their system?

Also, do you just use an HTML embed command, or do you use other code to display the .mov file?

I think most people have quicktime, I don’t have any numbers though, so I can’t speak definitively.

Your Quicktime demo looks great. How many megabytes is that file? Do you happen to know what compression method it uses?

it’s about 38mb…to be honest I don’t know the compression details, my screencapture app takes care of that

EDIT: it seems, 44.1khz audio quality (though i could probably bring that down), 30fps (though i could bring that one down too), it’s h.264 compression, captured at 1024 x 553 (widescreen),
