I feel the need to do a once a month download of my customers files as a backup. Does anyone have a recommendation for an easy to use FTP client that can accomplish the following:

    1) Perform unattended FTP downloads.
    2) Can schedule those downloads (like midnight Saturday or last day of the month at midnight)
    3) Can resolve naming conflicts - when I download the same site the next month it places the new files in a time stamp folder or something like that.
    4) Runs on XP environment.

I’m gonna give this a shot, haven’t done it before, but it should work.

    How are you with cron?
You can have a script (either php or some other server side script) compress your chosen files and put it in a safe place on your server.

Use Syncback to synchronize a backup folder on your machine with a ftp server.

I use Cute FTP pro for this on a regular basis (once a month). I tested several but this was the only one that could do both Secure FTP and schedule.

It took me some tweaking to get the rules right, Cute FTP would synchronize the whole site everytime because of the time stamp (I think).

One very nice thing is the ‘compare folders’ utility. I use that during upgrades to compare my backupfolders with my new install. Very handy!

I also read here in the forum that is not always as reliable to work with server side scripts that ZIP the folders first (Lisa said something about it).
