Trouble with sitemap

I’m having a hard time getting my sitemap to work.

I followed the instructions in the wiki and created a sitemap template. I have confirmed that this template is outputting the correct XML, so I don’t suspect there’s a problem here.

Next I created the sitemap.php file and uploaded it to the public_html directory of my site.

    But when I request mysite.com/sitemap.php, I get a 404.

Any ideas why this could be happening?

Ok, evidently there was some naming confusion—not sure exactly why.

My php file was named “sitemap.php.”

My EE template was named “sitemap.xml”

I’m new to EE (just launched my first site) and don’t really understand why there would be any confusion in the request, but when I renamed the php file to “map” the correct page displayed and I no longer received the 404.

    Odd…

    Can anyone explain this behavior?
