I have a client (Restaurant) who wants to take reservations online. Is this supported out-of-box or via a module/plugin? I know PHP, but I’d like to keep custom dev to a minimium

Hi bcamp1973,
Could you be more specific about what you need the reservation feature to accomplish? Reservations could be as simple as an email contact form sent to a mobile email address or as complex as assigning tables and doing some sort of inventory. Without knowing more about what you’re looking for its difficult to answer your question with specifics.

Hi Leslie, thanks for the quick reply!
Initially it would be nice to keep track of date/time/# of people in the party and notes such as phone number/special directions etc. Keeping a record of this with the option of sending an email would be great. Table assignment would be great. I’m so-so with PHP so I could look into doing some custom work, but would like to keep it fairly minimal if possible.

In that case EE would likely do the trick for you. I believe I pointed you to the Custom Weblog fields option in another thread. I’d use custom weblog fields plus the Stand Alone Entry Form to create a weblog for reservations. People would essentially post a weblog entry that contained all the entry for a reservation. Staff would be notified by email or rss of new reservations and could call to confirm or update whatever system was at the restaurant accordingly.
The reason I’d go this route instead of just email is that you could set up custom status’s to track cancelations, confirmations, etc…

Look into the weblog module with custom fields and the Stand Alone Entry Form (SAEF).

Can I recommend http://www.rdexpress.net or www.restaurantdiary.com - just one line of code to embed and you can have an integrated solution for reservations, CRM and email marketing?
