I need to open an e commerce site that allows people to do the following themselves:

-Create an account that has to be activated by responding to an email confirmation (like these forums did)
-Allow the user to create their own product sale listing
-Allow the user to pay for the listing via credit card
-Allow the user to upload multiple photos for the listing that will be resized correctly to fit on the page.
-Allow video to be uploaded to a listing
-Display a list of items to buyers that match a few search criteria
-Display the video/photos/text for each individual listing the buyer chooses to view

I know it sounds like eBay I’m creating, but it’s just an ecommerce site with a specific audience.  Can the ExpressionEngine (with additional modules if necessary) handle these tasks?  Can anyone provide specifics on which modules?

I could write this site myself, but I’m sure not excited about that prospect.  If the ExpressionEngine is a good fit then I’d rather go this route.

    Thanks

It sounds like you need an ecommerce platform more than a CMS. While EE does have a SimpleCommerce module I’m guessing you’re going to want to look elsewhere. EE really doesn’t have an out-of-the-box feature that allows self-management by 3rd parties… IE giving a 3rd party space that they can update.

Well that bums me out, but thanks for the reply.  Do you have an idea of any ecommerce platforms that are well established?

I don’t know of a commerce platform that meets all your requirements. There are literally 100s to chose from which makes the search unfortunately difficult.

    I’m curious… which parts can’t EE do?

    Hi, digitallysmooth:

I’m actually asking about this over on the Help forum, where Leslie split off the thread, if you’re interested, at http://ellislab.com/forums/viewthread/66110/ .
