So I am browsing the net and this article comes up on CNN which caught my eye.

I went to the site to um… “investigate” (you can guess the address) and came up with the familiar “welcome to CodeIgniter” message.

Geez, small world.  Ok, need to get back to um… “investigating.”

Edit:  Ok, joke is on me.  Commence bashing.

“The site had some 30,000 subscribers who paid $39.95 a month to visit the site”

Maybe I need to live a double life as a pornographer 😊

Heh, they even uploaded the user guide.  This might generate some page hits for CodeIgniter and Ellislab.  😊

In fact the “URL” simply redirects you back to your own localhost.

You’re looking at your own server….duh!

ROFL!  Whoops.  I didn’t even realize I had CodeIgniter or the server stack installed on this computer.  It is my POS windows machine.  Too funny.  I thought something about that was weird.

    Ok, back to um… “investigating.”

Yes but how does it do that?

Without my webserver running I get 404. There’s something tricky going on there.

Edit: DNS (A) record set to 127.0.0.1 will do this.

Not sure how they are doing that.  The URL does not change so it threw me off.  Also, I don’t have an icon in my taskbar that is telling me that the server stack is running so that threw me off as well.  Oh well, I had a good laugh out of the whole deal.  Good times.

Edit:  Good thing I was not developing my site on the Windows machine.  I would have been pissed because they stole my idea and design!  😉

Hi! I’ve found this thread and I’ve tried to understand what are you talking about but I don’t understand about what site you’re talking about. Could someone tell me please? Thanks.

You came to the forum and for your one post you dug this up?

This is a joke which has come and gone.  I could explain but then it wouldn’t be funny any more.

    Sorry, you are too late.

There are tons of ways for this to occur. I had a similar experience with Wordpress once - I had the site’s URL set to localhost and was trying to show it off to CI Lee - all he saw was his localhost.

Might as well close the thread too.  Sadly, my porn star days are behind me.
