    Is EE the next google? Are you going like are you going to have a stock symbol, cause I want to buy stock in this company?

    The bulb is flickering on and off with all the possibilities EE imposes. With a bit of flash for the front end and a blend of asynchronous JavaScript and php you can make your self some nice money if you applied your knowledge to do so.

    God the geniuses who made this program and how they think it is amazing. Now if I told EXpressionEngine had no Maker or designer that it happend by a big bang that some how all the code came together by it self you would look at me like as if I was crazy, but when it comes to the mother Earth and it’s spawn of humans how can people say it just happened by chance? All the codes needed to make to instantiate life were in effect accidents no it can’t be.

    Any way My reason for using expressionengine is to make a web application an inventory module right now at my job they are using MAXIMO software from IBM it sucks!  They spend over $100,000 yearly in licensing cost for this program and it is not even asynchronous.

    The light bulb is flickering in my head I got to work out these ideas. this is what I want to build with EE

    1) contact list list employee id’s first and last name and contact info
    2) work order tracking system to assign workorder to jobs
    3) inventory control systems that link workorder numbers to parts taken to complete those jobs so we know x part when to job y
    4) A task calender to keep track of events for each users of the calender like keep track of your overtime or just keep track of little to do’s
    5) a parts database
    6) a messaging system
    7) a diary

    can all those things be done with EE?  so there are my projects they are going to keep me busy as the bulb is flickering it ain’t on all time so I get lost in my head.

    Thanks for making EE the way you did I am having fun peeling back the layers

    Yes, I do think it can do all of this. For 4 and 7, you should consult an EllisLab employee to see if this complies with the licence. A personal diary? Yes, it can do that. However, a hosted weblogging service is very directly prohibited in the licence. As far as 4, you could make it as a weblog with multiple authors, and have a sort option by authors. There’s also a very basic notepad in the backend and in the member cPanel. Blogs with multiple authors are, if I am correct in my interpretation of the licence, allowed, but a hosted weblogging service, ala LiveJournal, is not.

    To see the licence, go here: http://expressionengine.com/docs/license.html

    And I do have to concur with almost everything you’ve said. EE is an amazing piece of software and a hell of a price for all the features and possibilities it contains.

    Personal License: Users of the Personal License may use the Software only on a website engaging in personal, non-commercial, or non-profit activities. One license grants the right to perform one installation of the Software. Each additional installation of the Software requires an additional purchased license.

    So if I can understand you correctly are you saying that with a personal licence I can not make a multi user calendar for a group of lets say 15 people to keep track of there overtime and little projects they have been working on

    also if I wanted to make a diary for each user of the system to log details about there days events if they so felt like it. Then as an admin or manager I can group reports about each user and send them correspondance if so inclined

    Then I can get an overtime report printed for all the user’s of the calendaring system printed out nicely for payroll

    You should email Sales directly - .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address).

    Multi-user blogs are fine. You can restrict templates to specific member groups. I think the way I’d do restricting entries (overtime, to do, etc.) is with this:

    {exp:weblog:entries limit="15" weblog="overtime"}
    {if logged_in_member_id == "{member_id}" OR logged_in_group_id == "1"}
    Date worked: {date}

    Overtime hours: {hours}
    {/if}
    {/exp:weblog:entries}

    This ensures that only that particular employee, and the superadmins (or the employer) see the overtime. It’s a lot less labour-intense.

    I’m not part of the EllisLab team (hence why I don’t have a cool little banner for my signature), I’m just a fellow EE fanatic. I’m pretty sure that work-around is fine as far as the licence goes but you should really check with Sales.

    Thanks Bobby I am going to start development on this project just for fun I am not going to sell it or make money off of it if my employer likes it maybe we would use it if I get paid I will pay for a commercial license until then I am just having fun with it

    The sad thing is this the only thing standing in the way of making this a reality is my brain. It’s very much possible to do I got an idea now I have to turn that idea into something tangible that’s the hard part.

    We can all be millionaires if we only can turn our ideas into realities.

    Thanks for the spark!

    You’re welcome. Good luck with the project, let us know if it springs to life. Don’t be shy to come back and definitely don’t hesitate to consult the sales/pre-sales folks.
