This is rather a post-sales question, but I didn’t find a more apropriate forum to post to. Does a Personal/Commercial license allow for:

    1) two copies of EE - one is accessible online with public URL and the other is privately used for development purposes (URL known to developers and client)

    2) two copies of EE - one is online and the other is a local installation

    ?

    Thanks

Hi, Mvd!  Have a look at this kb entry for an answer. =)  In short, if you install ExpressionEngine twice you must own two licenses. You are allowed to install one additional off-line copy for web development and backup purposes.

This leaves a little gray area. How about a 2nd installation - a copy of public website - on a server? It would be used by developers to build and test new major features before they are rolled out on a publicly advertised website.

Should we contact EllisLab sales people for further discussion?

Is there another (and perhaps smarter) way for a team working in different locations to develop+test+demo major updates to a running website?

The development copy can be online, but it can not be publicly accessible.  =)

Lisa, thank you for clarifying this.
