I’ve purchased the personal use version after playing with EE and if I can get the following solved for my client then I can bump it up to commercial.

    The challenge is this.

I was hoping that the Photo Gallery and a standard Web Blog entry area could be associated with each other in such a way that as you filled out an entry you could associate a number of images from the gallery with it and have them displayed once published.

You are asking, why the gallery?  Answer is easy, I am not sure of any other way of doing this.

I need a method that would allow the user to upload as few as 1 and as many as 5 images for a weblog entry.  Idealy they would be able to upload their images and then be able to select the specific image order if not from a visual grid of thumbs then from a named list of the uploaded images. A drop down list for the primary image, secondary, tertiary and so on.  Also it would be ideal if the system created a thumb version of the image for display within the entry and the (max width / height / maintain aspect) values were set to a default value so they wouldn’t have to worry about it.

Is there an extension or method of doing this?  Have I missed something obvious?

Thanks in advance for any help.

    Cheers,

    Paul

There was a module being developed, Easy Gallery by wil.Laxa, but it seems to have stalled. Solspace also has a Gallery Extender module that may fit your needs.

Creating thumbs is easy, either with phpThumb or with the EE plugin Image Sizer.

    Hi Paul,

There are probably many ways to do this, but I thought I’d share how I set this up for my clients.  If you’re not adverse to using WYSYWIG editors, I would suggest looking at the TinyMCE plugin for EE.

For my client’s site, I use TinyMCE for all of the publish/edit textareas. You can control which addons and features you would like to have available, so can remove items which may mess up your templates (eg: tables, advanced styles, etc).  You can also install any additional plugins that are available, and in my case, I’ve installed one called iBrowser.

iBrowser let’s you set up image directories on your server, and allows users to upload, browse, and manage images, and can also automatically gereate the thumbnails on upload, as well as automatically create the link to the large image. In my case, I’ve set up some preset sizes for the thumbnails, and when the user uploads an image, they select the size they want, and can then just insert that thumbnail into the content (textarea) field.

Again, not sure if this is the best way, but my client’s point of view, this was muuuuch more direct and clear compared to using the EE gallery module.

    My 2 cents,

    Ira

I find TinyMCE editor extremely slow to load and use.  The image upload is even worse - am I the only one?

Also see this wiki article, which is the solution that I suggested to the OP in a related post and is the one I now use.
