Gallery Comment Form Glitch

I’m trying to include the comments and comment entry form with the image_med page instead of having a separate page for adding comments.

Things work fine unless there is missing information in the comment form.

The error page appears stating the error (e.g., no email addy) and the link “Return to Previous Page”

When you click on the link, sure enough, you are returned to the previous page with the same captcha, however, after you’ve corrected the error and click on submit you receive a new error:

The form you submitted contained the following errors

        * You did not submit the word exactly as it appears in the image

    Return to Previous Page

And you remain in that error loop until you kill the web page.

Everything works fine in the regular weblog pages that combine the content and the comment form, but the Gallery Module page doesn’t seem to refresh the captcha when you go back.  Any idea on how to correct this?

I’d really rather not have a separate comment entry page; it’s too confusing for the senior citizens at this site. (I’ve already killed the comment preview option because it meant yes another window to further confuse the site visitors.)

    Thanks!

Without seeing if this is an bug (not tested yet), you can use some sort of validation on the form.

Easy Contact Form Validation might work for you.

In the mean time, I’ll do more testing in 1.6.1.

Thanks, Sue. I’ll play around with the validation while you’re checking for the bug.

To see this in action, I’ll leave things alone at: http://drycreekcommunity.org/index.php/gallery/ (just click on one of the Recent or Random Images).

    Sue,

I took a look at that link. I really don’t want to have to mess around with javascript to make EE work. Javascript inevitably breaks down and this solution is using a 3rd party plugin plus having to modify the comment form to match the funky special class and create yet another set of templates. Not to mention the amount of time this would take which would have to be unpaid time on my part since I told them EE would need only some basic template design work.

And then there’s the matter of having to modify the global header to include the javascript files or re-write the Gallery templates to include the global head information plus the javascript links (thus defeating the purpose of global header templates to begin with).

So any luck on finding out why the captcha doesn’t refresh and what needs to be done?

I replicate it, but we’re still digging into the issue.  Hang tight while we get some more eyeballs on it.

Derek spotted the issue- there should be a fix in for the next build.  Sound good?
