Question about member privileges and privacy

Our client needs a system with restricted access to weblogs, download files and forum thread/posts among different member groups. It is very important to keep the content for each member group separate and private. Obviously we’d require membership to give access the site.

    They need the following:

    - To post content and files in different weblogs, one for each member group. They shouldn’t have access to other weblogs.
    - A support forum where members from each member group can post threads, and only see and reply to posts in threads from the same member group. They shouldn’t see threads from other member groups.
    - They shouldn’t see other member groups information in the Control Panel (such as recent posts, comments, etc).

Is this possible with EE? Privacy is extremely important, as the members that would access this information are my client’s customers, and they would be paying for access and support related to the content they purchase.

    Thank you!

One clarification: the customers (member groups) would not be posting in the weblogs (maybe only comments). They would just access the pages my client publishes to see the posted content and download files.

    Greetings, Neil,

This is absolutely possible.  The forums allow you to set permissions for each member group per category and per forum.

For the weblogs, you can either use conditionals within the templates, or use Template level Access restrictions per member group.

You’ll want to map out who should see what, then implement it, but all of this is possible out of the box. =)

Yesss. I imagined so but just needed to be 100% sure.

    Thank you Lisa!

Just as a note, I wouldn’t even give them access to the control panel; there’s no reason to from what you said, so that should not pose any difficulties. =)

Ah, you are right. I have never used any member-related content or tags, so I didn’t remember that is possible. Thanks again!
