    Possible?

Browsers could input content via a form - say to add to a directory - this then would be moderated in an approval system internally, before being published.

I need to create a directory and jobdesk.

If EE can’t do this would anyone have suggestions for others scripts/software?

    Just use an SAEF.

This will allow you to do exactly what you want.

cool - will that let anyone submit entries though?

if you had a large number of entries in a directory would EE be able to handle that?

From the docs: “Users of this form must be members of the site and must be logged in. Further, the user’s Member Group must have permission to post entries to the appropriate weblog. No content will appear if the user is not logged in.”

I’m not sure what you mean by “large”. A few hundred? Several thousand? Several hundred thousand? This question would probably be better answered by the mod’s.

Doesn’t sound like it it will work then.

I’d need anyone to be able to add a listing - say for a job wanted offer or job offered, or for a directory .

I might look into something like this:

So I’m assuming you are opposed to having your form users create a site membership?

I’m not too sure that’s a barrier. You could always present it by saying “sign-up for a FREE membership…and start submitting”.

Then you can design the sign up process in a way that those creating a membership will self-validate; i.e. the membership will create itself once they submit the registration form - no need to validate e-mail addresses. At that point you can redirect them back to your entry form.

    Maybe a 30 sec process?

The advantage then will be that you can associate form entries with your users.

    Just a thought.

You could create a generic member account and have anyone who is not a logged in member submit via that account. There have been a number of posts regarding auto submission of forms.  The SAEF form will ONLY displayed if a individual is logged in, so you would create a page that checks member status, and if they aren’t logged in auto log them in as a guest or public or whatever you name the account, then the form displays. The process isn’t visible to the user. You can see an example here.  This form directly enters data into an EE data table.  The other option is to use Free Form by Solspace.

Perhaps. although the membership would get very big and could be hard to manage. How does the join system work in EE - is there a join module?

I wouldn’t be using EE’s forum though - but vbulletin, so that would mean they would need to keep track of 2 membership details.
With a jobdesk there could be 20/30 entries coming in every day, so it might be tricky to validate quickly as with EE you have to click on the netry to view the content, rather than say being able to scroll through 20 entries in a long page and jsut click ‘validate’ or something.

Your right. In your case it wouldn’t make sense to establish dual memberships with different credentials. With that said, you could find someone to write an extension to allow your memberships to bridge both platforms. Not my area of expertise.  :ohh:

With respect to viewing entries in the CP, I understand your concerns. Not sure if there are any extensions that exist to tailor the viewing experience in the CP the way you’ve suggested.

Yea i’ll probably look into a specific directory software programme. Most software is expensive though.
    Thanks for the help.
