EE and MySQL 4.0.27 Issues?

I’m working up a proposal for a site and the hosting company they are currently with only has MySQL 4.0.27 and they are reluctant to upgrade. I realize that the requirements page mentions needing at least MySQL 4.1. I have read in the forums about someone using 4.0.27, however. They were having some issues, but they were solved.

My question is: I know that it doesn’t exactly meet the requirements for EE, but can I still run EE, and if so, what issues/potential problems might be encountered because of the fact it’s so old a version?

In other words, what areas of EE would be impacted on the older version that were corrected in MySQL 4.1? Are there other issues that might make this not doable?

    Welcome to our community! =)

You might like to read yesterday’s blog entry, especially toward the bottom.  I’ll also look into what specific issues you might encounter and post back; but I would highly, highly recommend looking for a host that is willing to stay at least a little more current.

I know. I’d love for them to choose a good host, but convincing people to change is another story. Thank you for the fast reply. and the link to the blog post. I may use that in my argument.

I think you’re misunderstanding the requirements, as EE currently supports MySQL 3.23.32.  It is PHP that requires at least version 4.1.

Wow. *blink, blink* Wow. Maybe I need to call it quits for the week a few hours early. Thanks Derek.

I sent the EE requirements page to the hosting company and their tech person said it wouldn’t work w/ the box the site was currently on. We both must of looked at the requirements wrong.

Thanks for the clarification, Derek. I’m still gonna push for them to move to a newer box though.

    Current config:
    Windows IIS
    PHP version = 4.4.6
    MySQL version = 4.0.27

No problem, trebor79, and your suggestion for them to move to newer technology is still a good one.
