So we finally make the decision to move from Joomla to EE.  A move that’s still in the planning stage.  I am poking around the EE on-line documentation and tutorials, then decide to take a break.  I start looking at some of the company information (EllisLab, Inc.).  Turns out that I am sitting little more than twenty minutes from their office in Bend.

    Go figure.

Welcome to EE. I think you will like the switch from Joomla to EE. I used to only use Joomla. Now I happily use EE for all my CMS needs.

Hi Joe, Like M, I also used Joomla only.. But EE gives me much so much more freedom in designing my templates that I cannot see going back to any other CMS. I’ll just include the cost of EE and eat it if that’s what it would take to please my customer. In the long run, I come ahead because I can design and develop a fine site for my customer and my portfolio..

You will also find that the support level on this forum is miles ahead of that from other CMS.

    Welcome aboard.

    Congrats!

So if you don’t get the support you think you should, you can drive over and kick them in the kneecaps. Keep them on their toes!!

Welcome to EE, enjoy the love of the community that seems to appear.  😊

    Hi Joe,

Just to echo the sentiments here. You (in my opinion) won’t find a better CMS system anywhere in the world to work with. Whilst obviously there isn’t a CMS out there anywhere that can do everything you need EE does come exceptionally close and if there is something that it can’t handle out of the box then usually an extension, module or plug-in can be teased to get what you need.

The support on these forums is absolutely top-notch. I can say that these are the kind of people on here that you would be exceptionally proud to meet. I have never met any of the people on here but I know that it would be an honour as they are all very kind and helpful people. I have frequented many hundreds of forums over the past 14 years or so and nearly every single one of them had arguments and heated discussions on them. Here in EE land though (touch wood) none of these have ever really happened and people are just always trying to help everyone out wherever they can. An excellent community spirit if you ask me! 😊

As to what Paul said about “the love of the community” then I would say that is totally true. Apart from maybe the comment by Mr JT above!! 😊

    No offence JT! 😊

Anyway welcome to the excellent world of EE and I hope that you get along with it really quickly as I’m sure you will. Also any problems you have are usually answered in the forums at severely lightning fast times. I am based here in the UK but still get massively fast responses to my questions even when I think that the rest of the EE team are asleep being based in America!! 😊

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Welcome.  I’m with the crowd here; our firm’s installed a dozen or more CMS’s of various stripes.  Once we hit EE, we never looked back and now don’t work with anything else.  (Well, maybe WP when the occasion demands.)

And have you seen CodeIgniter?  Holy schmoly.  PHP apps are a pleasure to develop again.
