Wiki images not showing for 'members'

I’ve been working on my new site which will include two wikis for my users. While testing I’ve uploaded an image and linked it on the wiki index page.

It displays correctly to Admins, Pending, Visitors etc, but NOT for members. For users in the member group it just shows “Image:” followed by the image name. (I’ve tested the troublesome user and changed their group membership and up pops the image, until I switch them back to members).

Does anyone have any ideas why this might be happening? I’ve been poring over the file upload area settings, wiki permissions etc and cannot see any reason for this behaviour.

That’s just odd.  What build and version are you running?  And is it possible to link to the page in action?  Does the theme you’re using make any difference at all?

I know it’s rather odd… hence my puzzlement. I’m running build 20070815 and am running the default wiki theme, with a few cosmetic changes i.e. header, footer presentation tweaks and moved the left hand menu over to the right.

I can’t link you to the page right now, as it’s on my MacBook for development purposes.

When it displays (i.e. everyone other than members) it generates an img tag of the form:

    < img src=“http://<site name>/index.php/wiki_name/<cryptic image reference>/” alt=”<cryptic reference>” >

    For Members, it generates

    Image:<image name>

    No img tag, no nothing.

    Any thoughts?

Can you try it with the default theme? You needn’t even overwrite your own theme, simply change the theme= reference in your template.

Same behaviour with the default theme I’m afraid.

Just created another user of type “Member” and it shows the same behaviour.

David, you’re a build behind, any way you can upgrade to the most recent build? This way we’re all on the same build when troubleshooting.

Absolutely - I wasn’t aware I’d already slipped behind a release. I’ll get upgraded and let you know how I get on.

What’s the best way to keep on top of such things - and see what has been fixed in the releases? (I just know you’re going to point me at a forum - but I’m wondering about mailing lists etc).

Thanks for the prompt attention anyway.

Now to make sure I don’t overwrite any of my oodles of template updates. Guess I’ve got to work it out sometime.

What I do is use a template other than default. This way I don’t accidentally over write it.

Then I have an archive folder for older versions.

As far as build changes go, the best thing to do is to subscribe to the RSS feed

Yes I have my own template for the main site components as well as the wiki. It’s all the profile and forum bits I’m concerned about mainly.

Thanks for the RSS feed link - I also spotted the build notes in the update which provides good details.

I do the same thing with profiles and forums. I’m pretty paranoid that way. 😊

I’ve just done the patch release update according to the update instructions in the manual i.e. update the various system folders. I am curious however as looking through the build_log.txt file that it implied there might be fixes in the various theme index.php files. Is this correct and do I need to update files outside of system? I hope not as I’ve been making some fairly widespread changes to the wiki, profile and forum themes from a css perspective and I’d hate to have to redo these.

With regards to the problem I mentioned above - it’s still happening with this the latest build using the default wiki theme. I’ve just twigged that the Image: part of the display is in fact simply the contents of the [[Image:_____]] image reference stripped of the surrounding braces. I’ve uploaded another image and it’s doing exactly the same thing. File: references are exhibiting the same behaviour as Image: links in that the image doesn’t render, only the filename.

Scratching my head over this one - as the images display correctly for all other member types including those not logged in, all except for “Members”.

If you look in the update instructions for each module, they’ll have Update Notes so you can update your custom themes.

Are you running any extensions? Also, what is the content of the template calling your wiki theme? Just the single line?

    Ok - will do.

No extensions outside of the standard EE modules.

The template invoking the problematic wiki is simply:

    {exp:wiki base_path="il2_wiki/index" wiki="ks_il2_wiki" theme="default" profile_path="forums"}

That’s it. I have two wikis running side by side hence the path business, and I’m trying to use the forum profile stuff throughout the site hence the profile_path bit.

I can’t find these update notes for each module you refer to…

I’ve looked in the update instructions in the docs, in the module folders, in the forum thread announcing the patch release, and under the theme folders in the new release and I can’t see these module specific update instructions you’re referring to with respect to the discussion module, wiki and profile themes etc.

Am I missing something - ‘cause it sure feels like it!?

Bottom of this page for the discussion forum module.  The wiki hasn’t needed one yet, so you won’t find that there.

That said, you tested a fresh download of the default themes and it still didn’t work, so I don’t think it’s the themes.  I’m going to ask the team on this one; I can’t figure out any reason this would be happening.
