I don’t know if you guys changed your site or not, but for the last few days, whenever visiting this forum, something is forcing Vista to revert to low quality (no aero) and making the browsing experience generally unpleasant since it alters the entire desktop.

I don’t know if this is something possibly broken on my end but I suspect it is. It just started happening. Usually it’s the result of someone using quicktime or another video control that forces the O/S to revert but I don’t see any qt code on this forum at all.

Am I the only Vista user experiencing this? There’s a good chance it’s just me, and if so I need to figure out what i broke because this sucks.

I’m thinking it’s not the site, but my PC. I don’t see anything else that’s changed in the site here.

Nothing changes here, watch the browser process before and during visiting the site, is it consuming more memory/cpu? That could explain the drop in aero theme.

hmmm… I made one small change yesterday which I thought was trivial. I undid that change, let me know if you’re still experiencing the weirdness.

I’m going to be very very naughty here and say you should always use a Mac!!  😊

Please don’t kill me for saying that though.

What did you change to the forum then Leslie. Any new features we should be aware of? 😊

    Best wishes,

    Mark

Let’s keep the topic on topic please 😊

No new features. I added a tracking mechanism to see who has QT installed… pretty standard stuff. But perhaps this is triggering IE7 in Vista in some unfortunate manner.

Let me know things are still acting up JT.

    Hi Leslie,

Yes. Sorry about that. Duly noted. I thought I might get a slap actually! 😊

So you are tracking us eh? Why are you wondering if we are using QT or not? Are you going to be putting some videos online in the forums in the future or something?

You could always just ask us. We would tell, honest!! Although I’m pretty sure that no-one is going to own up to having hundreds of copies of EE installed at less than $1 a pop!! as seen here😊

Anyway hope you get it all sorted out JT.

    Best wishes,

    Mark

The QT check is for all visitors coming to the site, not something specific to the forums. But since some people start out at the forums, they get checked as well. All the video blog entries require QT as do the EE tutorials. I was simply curious as to how many people actually run QT, what version, etc…

I just visited the site in Firefox in Vista on my Vaio - there were no changes of any sort to the environment; everything as normal…

You know, I bet that’s what it is. But I don’t think it’s a problem on the site, i think it’s a problem with my Vista install. I think it’s incorrectly addressing the request and throwing my desktop into low qual mode.

I honestly don’t think it’s something you’d need to attend to. I’m sure it’s my problem.

    Thanks for the responses!

I haven’t changed the site back. I’m waiting until I have my own copy of Vista to test with which won’t be until after I install Leopard sometime next week (will run Vista off bootcamp). I have a Windows install to test IE6/7 but its still on XP, not Vista.
