Hello… I have a client who is looking to add a community feature to their current site. I am leaning towards having the client purchase an EE license. One concern I have is that the users will have to create 2 profiles/log-ins to interact with the site.

    1) for the main site which will have a few articles and blogs that they can comment on

    2) the forum section

Am I correct in thinking that they would have to have two profiles/log-ins? Or would their main profile for the main site also serve as their log-in for the forums?

Also, development wise, could I would use the EE stand alone first and then add the forum later or is it best for this to be done all at once?

    Any input is appreciated.

    Thanks!!

1 & 2. EE’s Membership module is system wide which means that your visitors will only need a single login for blog commenting, forums, and whatever else you require a login for. That’s one of the major benefits of EE.

And yes, you can start with EE and then add the forums later. Its really easy to do so.

Hi Leslie… Thank you for the feedback. That is great to hear!

I have another question if you don’t mind, to go a bit off topic, as I mentioned I will be working on this for a new client and it is actually a dating site so the members already have profiles with another software. Would there be a way to import the current profiles into EE? It can be simple in that the only thing that is imported is the username and password. Again, I would like to cut down on the number of profiles a user would have to create/have.

    Thank you!

Hi, mnc - you would need to get your data into an importable format, but we do have a member import utility. =)
