I’m thinking with a client about the practicality of moving a site from Joomla to EE and so far everything is looking promising. I implemented an EE design on a client site a few years ago, but it looks like it’s changed a lot since then. I want to make everything as simple as possible for the client to add content to the site since there will be several people doing so with limited cms skills. So, here are my questions.

    1. Say I want to create two site pages, one for news and the another for links. For the news page, I just want a title, summary, and body text and for the links page, I want fields for the title, a link description, and a link url. As far as I can tell, you need to create different weblogs to use different field groups. So, my question is, can the same site member add content to both sections without being an administrator and having access to the control panel?

    2. What if my news page and links page both have the same design, but just different content? Do I still need to create a template group for each weblog and then maintain both designs separately? I ask because this seems impractical since if I have to make a small design change in one, I’d have to do it in the other also.

    Thanks!

    1. Yes, absolutely.  This is done by having that member in a group with access to edit both weblogs, and having your custom field group set up appropriately for each weblog.

    2. No, you can use parameters in EE tags to tell EE what data to pull out.  You can also use embeds to pull in common site elements to multiple templates, so that you can separate out multiple templates as needed. =)

Have you checked out our trials?  Those might help get an idea of how EE works.  Try it out!.
