Thought I’d share a tip for all the Mac developers out there…
I’ve been using (and loving) CocoaMySQL for some time now, but only remotely: I couldn’t figure out for the life of me how to connect locally to my MAMP installation. (Had to resort to phpMyAdmin, which is lame.)
Now, this might be obvious to some folks, but for someone uninitiated into the mysteries of protocols and packets, it took me ages to figure out. So in the interest of saving someone else some time scouring the internets for the answer, it turns out you need only edit one line.
The ‘socket’ field must read:
/Applications/MAMP/tmp/mysql/mysql.sock(Assuming you’re using all the default MAMP paths. The default MAMP MySQL port, of course, is 8889.)
