Other than a few “image-friendly” enhancements, what makes the photo gallery module different than a regular weblog?  Where in the Publish Page can photos uploaded from the module be placed into entries?  When a photo is uploaded, is there a preference setting that allows the original photo to be kept or deleted?  Can thumbnails be placed in different folders?  (For certain Flash galleries).  Is there local software (for the mac of course) that can upload images instead of logging into the site?  Last, with folders of existing images, how do I get those into EE’s photo gallery module without changing the filenames or location?  Can it be done in a few easy steps?

And if possible, can the admin demo be setup so all the functions work in the photo gallery module?  Its difficult to judge its functionality when things like the Batch Entry and Toolbox don’t work and there are no visible photos.  Being able to view the templates would be helpful too.  Also, the Forum demo link points to pmachine/...

Hopefully I won’t miss any questions, let me know If I do. =)

Built in table-type display, watermarking, cropping, resizing, batch updating, things like that.

Where in the Publish Page can photos uploaded from the module be placed into entries?

You would want to use the built in relationships, or there are a few third party module options for this, depending what you need to do.

When a photo is uploaded, is there a preference setting that allows the original photo to be kept or deleted?

    The original photo is kept.

Can thumbnails be placed in different folders?

You can place them in different folders based on category.

    [quote[(For certain Flash galleries).

The image gallery only handles static images at this time.

Is there local software (for the mac of course) that can upload images instead of logging into the site?

    Not that I’m aware of.

Last, with folders of existing images, how do I get those into EE’s photo gallery module without changing the filenames or location?

The way I did this was to point the batch path to the pre-existing folders, it does copy them over.  If you want to keep them there, then you could point your image paths directly to those folders.

Tthe admin CP demo is only intended as a way to see the control panel; *not* to test functionality. You’ll want the 30 day hosted demo for the functionality, and you won’t be able to test things like batch uploading in that as there is no FTP access.  You could see how it works by pointing the hosted demo paths to the standard file image upload though.

You can view the gallery templates by going to the templates section and choosing the template group where you had it create those templates.  They’re just held in the main template area.

For the forum demo link, can you tell me exactly where you saw it pointing to pMachine? Thank you!

I hope that answers your questions, let me know if you have any others.

With the “table type display,” that’s similar to how the Calendar system works in the weblog module, correct?  I see the tags in the template….

As for the Flash gallery thing, Simple View uses the usual xml file to point to image locations on a server.  However it wants the thumbs and full-sizes in different folders with the same name.  That’s why I asked about the different folders for thumbs.  So the only way this can happen is through categories?  I’ve looked into Slideshow Pro as another solution, but I don’t have Flash and I’m not installing the demo - Adobe’s anti-theft systems scare me.

The issue is how to make the module work within an existing site.  In comparison to the others, I think this is the one module that could see some enhancements… though most likely because its the one module I really want outside of Core.  Good information to think about, thanks!

Yes, it’s similar to the calendar but with a whole set of tags specific to single and multi image displays in the gallery.  You can read the docs on that here.

I’m not at all familiar with Simple View, to be honest.  The EE gallery works by using prepended words.  You can point the thumb and medium images to their own URLs and paths, so they could, essentially be stored separately.  I do something similar but to create my own thumbs, and just custom build the URL using variables.
