Can ExpressionEngine be used to create a site like “http://www.complex.com/”?

I plan to make a site that has monthly subscription and where the user can pay for golden content, etc etc.

Id be interested to see Magazine sites using ExpressionEngine to drive it =)

From a quick look, I’d say EE could run a site like the one linked.  Do you have any other specific features you’re wanting to incorporate?  We could better advise with more detail.

As to having monthly subscriptions/protected content- it’s easy to have content available based on membership level, either by using access restrictions or conditionals.  However, syncing membership levels with a monthly subscription manager will take some custom tweaking.  I know some have done it using aMember.  You could also ‘roll your own’.  But the monthly subscription bit will take some custom work.

To get a feel for the types of EE sites out there, you might want to take a look at the spotlight sites- and before you commit, I’d suggest giving one of the trial options a test run.

I did have some other function in mind.

Here is a short list of the most important ones for now.

    1. A Event guide that would be flexible, that could have many different functions so i could be used for advertising purposes etc. Also it would be intended for use to notify about upcoming events like conserts, cd releases etc.

    2. Allso a band management system so that bands can upload songs and the user can vote on the content being uploaded.

    3. Product price guide for advertiser to manual typing in price on a custom product etc.

I have so many more functions in mind but talking about them would be like shooting myself in the foot 😛

I am just trying to find out how EE can fit my pipeline.

I really appreciate that you take the time to answer my questions =)

    1. EE has a Mailing List module that would work nicely for this, though you should offer RSS Feeds as a nice balance. You could do the Events list via a weblog and custom fields (oh, the joy of EE).

    2. This would seem doable with a weblog for each band’s content and Solspace’s Rating module. Though, I am not sure if it works with EE’s licence (about the blogging section), but if it’s just someone managing their section’s content, I would think it’d be OK. Check with the EE team 😊. A *little* tedious, perhaps, with MANY bands, but I set up different sections of my site (with discrete weblogs) in a few minutes.

    3. I don’t understand your question. Do you mean something like Manufacturer’s Suggested Price?
