Notepad++ is awesome when I just need to fix a bug real quick but I find Eclipse PDT to be superior when things get complicated a bit. I’m not sure what it’s name is but it has a plugin for working with Javascript as well. Aptana crashed my Eclipse and I never really gave it a second chance. Is it any good?

intype is a good choice too. It has some very nice features that rivals textmate 😛

Intype has been in alpha for over a year with the developers disappearing randomly and without notice. It is not a serious project and there is no way it could be used given its current form.

I tried using e and intype and it just doesn’t work for me. I found Notepad++ to be awesome for any type of code. I would heartily recommend Active State Komodo Edit, which really adds a lot to php development. I’ve been using it for my CI project and I am very happy with it. And it is free.
I’ve been using Aptana as well and it is also good choice. It takes a while to load though 😊. Dreamweaver is also good choice, specially if you have remote server to update.

Is it ok to use dreamweaver to update your files on remote server?
Most of the time, i used ftp like filezilla or ssh to upload my files on the server.
I think using dreamweaver for updating remote files is not secured compared to ssh/filezilla. I dont know if im correct about this, just a thought.

Program like filezilla and dreamweaver both use the same protocols (ssh/ftp) so it doesn’t make one or the other more secure.

I mostly use Notebeans for all my big project stuff. And scite for small time editing (over a ftp).

I use NetBeans for all my php needs. The next version (6.9) will be better yet!

I used to use MulteEdit a long time ago, then Notepad++ until a PHP programmer introduced me to UltraEdit.
It is ideal for PHP, CSS, text files and has a marvelous Alt-C key shortcut to switch to vertical block marking, editing and deleting.
It has many other features that I am still learning on a daily basis.

E Text editor with ZenCoding and CI 1.7.2 bundle is the best. KISS procedure

E
I personally use E-Texteditor at the moment because I find the way that it handles the code very simple and straightforward, besides that you are able to customize snippets, also it is possible to customize how your code coloring looks to an almost extreme degree. Though there are a few downsides with E, the ftp support is lacking. You can’t upload more than a few files without the editor crashing, also it freezes the window when drag and dropping a file the explorer right onto E.
Dreamweaver
When I first started doing webstuff Dreamweaver(Had it at school) quickly became my editor of choice, because it had both ftp, and preview support. Later when my skills expanded I found that DW was annoying on how the autohelper reacted. Another annoying feature was that it took ages to do a color scheme.
Aptana
I tried Aptana for a few weeks and found it a very nice editor, but it had some odd ways of the ftp part with upload on save you had to add all sorts of scripts. But I really liked the rest of how it autohelped with code and was able to find custom functions and classes and show them in the autohelper. Again since I prefer darker code color schemes it was not possible to customize Aptana as much as either E or DW
So for now I’ll stick with E.
Cheers!
