Changing Weblogs from Publish Screen

    Good evening!

I’d like to be able to change the weblog an entry is in.  So I see that under the ‘Options’ tab on the ‘Publish’ window I’m supposed to be able to do just that.  Problem is, when I select the dropdown, the only option is the current weblog: no other options.

Am I missing something?  Or is there another way to change the association besides copying all the info and reposting it?

    Thanks!

PS Oh yeah, and does EE allow for custom file extensions?  That is, could I make a URL ‘/default_site/hello.html’ or some such?  I know how to do it in Code Igniter and I ask just in case on behalf of a client who’s concerned about his page rank.

Have a look at this kb entry on moving weblog entries.

As for the second, you can just type in .html into your templates or entries or what have you, there is also a thread in the General forum about removing the trailing slash.  That said, this won’t help you with SEO at all, so I’m not sure why you would want to add that to your URL.

    1. Got it!  Same category, field, and status groups. Thanks for the link…

    2. Hm, could you please clarify a bit?  Do you mean to say, first, I remove the trailing slash, then I just append the extension to the link?  Do you know where to find a discussion on that?

When I said for SEO purposes, what I meant is that in redesigning our client’s site with EE, we are completely revamping his URL structure (obviously).  But he’s got great page rank on certain specific product pages that he doesn’t want to lose… a 301 redirect is the answer, of course, but he’s a little skittish, so we were just scoping the options, trying not to break any important permalinks, savvy?

maadmac, in the case of your client, what you’d do is use the Pages module and create an entry and a single entry template. Then put in the path to the old .htm file.

You need to remove or rename the original file on the server, though.

    Here’s an example:

    http://www.eehowto.com/about-us.html

    There is no about-us.html page.

In this case, you wouldn’t need to have a fix for a trailing slash.

    Hi Sue,

Just to make sure I understand:  After I create a single-entry ‘Page’, I just add the extension where I specify the URL in the tab on the Edit page?

    Thanks!

After you have a template setup to show your ‘single entry pages’?  Yes- just go to the ‘pages’ tab in the publish/edit page and specify the url for the given entry.

    Make sense?
