    Hello again,

I have installed ee in a subdomain and set up a new blog. I do get funny characters out of nowhere for specific characters 3 or 4 of them from the Greek vocabulary. Although I do not see the funny characters when I preview a weblog post, they apear when the post is submited and it’s visible in CP too. Is there an explenation for this cause its really annoying! See the attached files please…

“Looks like Greek to me!” Ha!

Do you think it has something to do with the language pack?  Can we look at the code it spits out?

Looks Greek to you my friend cause it is Greek!  :cheese:

There is no language pack in this, hasn’t got to do with that. There is no code here too, the first screenshot is from the Contol Panel Publish Tab.

What version of EE are you running?

In your General Configuration, what is your “Default Character Set”?  That setting determines what character set your control panel pages are delivered in, which also affects the character set your browser sends form data in.  My recommendation is that you use UTF-8 (and do not auto convert high ASCII characters).

Thank you for your answer Derek. I haven’t played around with encoding at all. In General Configuration encoding is in UTF-8, it is set by default. If it was an encoding issue, then I presume all the characters would be funny. The weird here is that only 3 or 4 characters become funny and always the same ones.

What characters, and what browser are you using?  And do you have an browser add-ons installed?

I am using Safari, no plugins. But I don’t think its a browser issue. I have another copy of ee installed in a different domain and everything works fine there, same computer same browser.

    ...and what characters in particular?

Typing Greek characters 3 or 4 out of the 24 in the Greek alphabet look like the screenshots for example:

Thats how the Greek word should look like: Δοκιμή
and thats how it looks like: Δοκιμ?

The system after submiting the post replaces the Greek character “ή” with “?”. As I said the problem is with only 3 or 4 letters.

Can you see the characters properly here? I wonder if it’s a font issue on your machine.

Also, do you have a link to the site, so that we can see what’s going on? Preferably a page where we can see the problem in action.

Yes I can see the characters properly here, thats how I wrote the correct word “Δοκιμή” in my previous message. I can give you a link to the page but the problem comes from the ee CP and not the code. Heres the link http://erotimatiko.maclife.gr/
