I can see that being a pain. Hmm why not include the ability to throw templates outside the group perhaps in the next release?

I’d recommend reading through the entire series on the importance of semantics, insomnie, you’ll begin to see just how vital that information is to EE. You can either ditch the template (and let EE assume the index of that template group) or simply use the URLs as is - which is friendly both to people and SEO, and only slightly longer.
