When EE (v 1.6) is installed does it create just one (1) database?

I’m testing out a new “dedicated” server and I see the EE database I created and three other databases that I did not create. Just want to make sure that I understand the architecture before I ask the hosting company where these other databases came from.

Actually, EE doesn’t create a database, you do that before install and EE then populates the database. EE prefrences each item it creates with “exp” (unless one specifies something different). If you’re finding other databases or stuff (ya, stuff’s the techie term) in your database, EE didn’t put it there.

Yes, EE creates just one database, which contains numerous tables.  The exact number of tables depends upon which modules you’re running, as various modules (like the gallery and discussion forums) have their own dedicated sets of tables.

The other databases you are seeing, are they named ‘test’, ‘mysql’ and ‘phpMyAdmin’ ?

If so, the first two are completely standard (you can remove test should you want, but not mysql). the third is created by the mysql admin interface phpmyadmin, removing this will disable some of the features within that software.
