I’m about to purchase the commercial license of EE after toying with the core version for the last couple of days.

Some quick questions about the Photo Gallery module i need answered.

    >> Can you upload multiple images at once?
    >> Can users see a thumbnail version of the the uploaded images
    >> Can you use lightbox ( or thickbox ) as the presentation layer for the gallery ?

    Cheers

    1) Yes, there is a batch mode.
    2) Yes, visitors can see a thumbnail. It can also create a medium-sized image.
    3) I don’t use the Gallery module, I create galleries using the regular weblog module but I recall others having used them with the Gallery.

PXLated just out of curiosity why would you prefer to use the weblog module instead of the gallery module? is there something that the gallery doesn’t do that the weblog does?

I’ve never needed the batch or other image manipulation features of the Gallery. With the weblog module you just have a lot more features you can use, custom fields, custom categories, custom statuses, related entries, etc….all the things you can do normally and within the same interface as everyone is using for normal entries anyway, plus the stand alone entry form if you want to keep them out of the CP. Here’s one example… Marauders ...my old highschool/college blues band days.

There’s actually quite a few of us that use the weblog module this way. I usually use phpThumb in conjunction with the galleries.

I am not PXLated, but I do the same, so… Yes, there is something that the gallery does not do. A lot, in fact. Unlimited custom fields, proper categories, some third party modules… I could go on. Since I really don’t need the features which, in turn, the weblogs do not offer (upload and online image manipulation, mainly) I have found weblogs to be the better choice. They work on EE Core, too, by the way.

For me, it depends.  If I need batch mode (though note, you still need to click ‘submit’ each entry- unless you get creative) and simple image display, I’ll go gallery.  Actually, I’ve used it more for a ‘backend resource manager’ type thing- very handy for that.  For max. flexibility, it’s hard to beat the weblog- and it has the benefit of being searchable as well.

Depends a bit on what you’re wanting to do.  The big bonus with the gallery is the batch mode and auto-creation of thumbs.  But if you’re creative, it’s possible to do the extra image creation with the weblog.  So…  It’s a judgment call based on your needs/wants.

This one worked for me http://www.jeremiahlee.com/projects/ee-gallery-batch/ when importing 11000 images
