    Gday all,

Just wanted aussie EE users to be aware of a web hosting company that is decidedly EE Unfriendly. Not only did they just turn off “fopen” without warning they would not listen to any advice/solution or anything else offerred by Derek who did his best with them but they just have no idea. The only thing they did was give me 7 days to convert my EE site to a Joomla site!  Here is a copy of a post they made to me—their solution was to switch to Joomla!!!!

As you might not be aware of it , fopen is a security flaw in php which can easily be compromised.
If this software you are using is requiring this I would strongly suggest to create a new site in joomla instead as they keep their security up to date.

Sure enough 7 days later ausweb disabled my site.
The Moral of the story: dont use ausweb!!

Ill let you know more about this company once all of my sites have been moved.

Heheh that is one of the funniest quotes I have seen in a long time.

I hope you are running, not walking, to a new hosting provider.

Could you perhaps email me contact information for this host?  The name of the company and whomever you talked to about the situation.  This seems like an unacceptable situation and I think spreading F.U.D. like this is only going to hurt PHP and programs (like ExpressionEngine) that use it.

Aplogies for the lateness of my reply I didnt know someone had posted

    the host is ausweb.com.au

I spoke to Peter , I think its a one man show. My experience was that they do not care what anyone thinks, because they apparently know everything!

I have now moved to another host!
    Cheers

    For any interested ..

I have found Quadra Hostingto be very reliable, approachable and supportive.

They run separate http, database and email servers and are quite reasonably priced.

They also have a US server, but I’ve no experience with it
