MT4 goes free again. I think MT4 is a big competitor for EE. Does the team behind EE has some strategy on that?

Probably just keep doing what they’re doing. There are A LOT of ex-MT users here.
The personal liscense is free but all the other options are more expensive than EE as I recall. And, EE has the free Core version.

I think MT 4 will have an open source version.

importantly, MT4 will be available in two forms as MT is today: a free personal edition and a paid commercial edition. The open source version is actually going to be a slightly different product (they will share probably 99% of the same code and will look the same)

I, too, came to EE via MT, but I am not going back. I took a look at the new version (if it’s GPL’ed, we might be able to recycle some code 😊 Just kidding), but so far I’ve not been too impressed. A bit of a rush job, but let’s wait for the final version.

This is exactly correct. Our strategy will never be determined by the feature set of another product or the moves of another company. Our focus is always making EE better and meeting the needs of our community.

We wish SixApart the best on their new MT release and welcome them to the open source community. Its always nice when a commercial company decides to give something back. That’s one of the reasons we maintain CodeIgniter.

We’re glad SixApart is following our example and the example set by other commercial entities who support open source.
