Pligg, which is an open-source Digg-style CMS, is up for sale.  EllisLabs should consider buying this and making it a part of the EE platform, or as a module.

I think you’d be hard pressed to find a group of developers that are interested in purchasing something that’s a rip of another service. Especially when programming is what they do. lol

That looks like it’d be fun to play with though.

But you can develop sites like that with EE: www.macitt.com.

[Edit] Ok there is a custom module/plug-in or two, but the point being not much of a drive to buy out an open source project if users can already extend your product to do the same thing… just my opinion.

http://www.macitt.com looks like it uses standard EE functionality. What additonal plug-ins do u think it is using?

I remember when Solspace helped launch it and there was a write-up on it.  I believe I remember him saying this is where the Tag module was born.

This is the Macitt interview you’re referring to.

    Leslie,

Can you check the link to the interview? It doesn’t appear to work anymore.

    Thanks!

Hadley here, publisher of Macitt. When I started it I thought of using Pligg but didn’t like how it couldn’t be customized. So I worked with the fine folks at Solspace and we came up with a technical solution that uses Expression Engine. The interview is good background, but it is a pretty sweet solution. Unfortunately the site has taken off to well but that is no fault of EE or Solpace!

Just in terms of usage, thought it would get more.
