Hi Cathie. Welcome to the ExpressionEngine family.

Yes, you can use Google adwords with an {exp:weblog:entries tag. What I've seen done is a check for the variable {count}, and then if count=2 or some other way of putting them in there.. the ad shows between entries.

    Here’s an example:

    SavvyFashionista.com

If you look at her site, you’ll see three ads. The first one before the weblog entries show, then after the first and second entries.

I create a global variable called {adwords} and use that.

I’m sorry but it looks as though the google ads are in the template between different blog entries.  Am I wrong?  I would like to put the adword javascript in the entry when I go to “publish”.  I am not a professional designer so if you could explain I would be most appreciative.
    Thank you,
    Cathie

    Hey Catherine.

If you wanted the option to include something like that for each entry, you’ll probably want to add a custom field.

    1. Admin > Weblog Administration > Custom Weblog Fields > Add/Edit
    2. Create a custom field (I’ve screen capped a good possibility for you)
    3. Add the adword info into an entry
    4. include {adwords} in the weblog entries tag.

But Dererek, aren’t custom fields meant to be called via the template? Also, wouldn’t you have to provide that info for every article, again and again?

I understood Cathie’s question that she wanted this information to be entered for each entry, to be called when it loops through the entries.  A custom field would allow her to custom control the look of the adword ad for each entry, or omit it altogether.

    Did you interpret it differently?

Cathie: perhaps you could re-word what you want the output to be?

I understood her to want simple, plain Adwords ads within an entry, and not between them. Only she can tell, of course 😊

In the entry, you can put in a global variable that contains your ad.

So you’d just put in {adsense} or whatever your global variable is called.

That way you don’t need to have a separate field.

    (I misunderstood previously.)

    Hi,
I am not trying to control the output of the adwords
Maybe my question was confusing or I am not understanding the answers.
I would like to have the google adwords displayed within my weblog entry.
For instance when I publish a new weblog entry, can I put the code in the HTML so that the google adwords are displayed.
Currently, if I do this, the javascript seems to be ignored by expression engine and nothing is displayed.
    Thanks and sorry for confusion.

If you allow all HTML, then you can just paste the block directly into the entry, yes.  I don’t see why that wouldn’t work, though I think it would be better in the templates, personally, in case you later change your mind - it’d be much easier to update it in one template than in several entries. =)

    Thanks Lisa,
How can I allow all HTML?

head to Admin -> Weblog Administration -> Weblog Preferences -> edit weblog and edit the posting preferences there. =)

    Lisa,
I’m sorry to be so thick, but I don’t see those options.  Here are screen shots of my admin panel.
