    Hi,
I´ve developed a site (EE 1.6) for a client locally using MySQL version 5.0.19. The host is on MySQL 3.23.49, so I exported all the tables with “Export Compatibility MYSQL 323”, but phpMyAdmin says it´s unable to read the data (no matter if uncompressed or zipped).
I sent the DB to the host but they couldn´t replace the complete DB either - 51 tables instead of 68, and even within the tables the data seems randomly incomplete. Some fieldgroups have all fields, some have 0 fields, for example.
Also phpMyAdmin (which is installed separately for every client) says, the extension “mbstring is missing”. Could that be causing the difficulties?
    Any advice very welcome!

I think I’d start by running the server wizard on the client site- see if it comes up with any issues.  It may note the mbstring, it may not.  I know it is used- but it shouldn’t jam up a command line db import.  Could be an issue in and of itself, though.

I might also try making the export file in two ways- first via an EE export (in ‘Admin- Utilities- SQL Manager’- and if that one won’t import, I’d try command line- see this on 4.1->4.0 conversion- not exactly what you need, but in the ballpark.

It may take a bit of tweaking on this one, but let’s start with the above.

Robin, thanks for your reply. I ran the wizard before I installed EE and it was all ok (including the DB check). But I installed EE there before phpMyAdmin was available. (With this host, everybody has to install it in their own user account). The default Site and CP would look ok. So I will run through your suggestions of dumping within EE, etc. and come back. Thanks, Wolfram

You might consider finding a new host or at least asking if they have servers with a newer version of MySQL while you’re doing the move.  MySQL has not supported version 3.x for over a year. :\

Derek, yes, I already talked about this with the client. Sorry for posting exotic problems like this, but these days everybody has his old website with some host before we (and EE) come into play. Who would think of all the possible surprises (but I´m learning and try to check out more things before).

Robin, I went throught the recommended steps – but no success. Either the host can get it up and running or we will change. At least we close this case here in the forums.

    Thank you for your contributions!
