I have reading through the documentation on the Multiple Site Manager, but still have a few questions:

    1. Does the MSM allow you to share weblog fields between sites? Or do you have to recreate your custom fields if you want to use the same ones on multiple sites?

    2. What about weblog status groups and categories?

    3. Do you have to start sites from scratch in order to add them to the MSM? So let’s say I have separate sites X, Y and Z, all setup and running EE 1.6. I want to put them together into 1 control panel with MSM. Can I add them? Or would they all need to be created after installing MSM?

    4. I know that with MSM sites can share members, meaning requiring only 1 set of login/password per user across the sites. If the sites in MSM are just subdomains, can a user login once and not have to re-login if they go to a subdomain? Or would they need to relogin for each subdomain?

You have to create them for each site. The purpose of the MSM Expansion is to give you separate sites, each with their own preferences, weblogs, fields, etc… Of course, if you just want to display a weblog across multiple Sites, you can. But Custom field groups are Site specific.

Same as above. They are specific to a Site.

As long as they are all running on the same installation, you can easily split them up after installing MSM. If those sites are on separate installations, you’ll have to do a manual import of some sort.

They just need to login once.

Can each unique site have it’s onw dedicated IP under MSM ?
I saw EE running all sites under ONE IP.

Sure, if you have several working IP interfaces on that machine can’t see a problem on EE’s side of things 😊
