Translation utility is a great feature to localize installation.

While using a screen we found some words to translate.

I did not found in the documentation nor in the forum what I have in mind:

How to find the lang.file.php related to the screen.

Some file names can help but it is not always very easy.

    For instance lang.admin.php, lang.cp.php or lang.home.php

A kind of map or relation table would be helpful.

May be already exist. But where ?

I haven’t seen a map of names->files, but from looking at the code, seems like the filename should be in the url for the page you’re working on?  Or am I misunderstanding what you’re going for?

    You’re right. Example will clarify.

In CP Home ›  Admin ›  Members and Groups ›  Member Search you have a list box for Member Group with values “Banned, Pending”, etc.

How find the file to translate where these words are ? For EE 1.6 using localization files which are not completely translated.

I tried using lang.member.php or lang.members.php but did not find banned nor pending.

And the issue is the same for any new word to translate.

    I hope it clarifies

Ah- yep, that clarifies.  I thought you meant when you’re in the translation utility, how do you know the file you’re translating.

Hm, no, I don’t know of a way to match a particular word on a cp page to the language file it pulls from.  You can figure it out by looking at the backend code, but that’s not particularly user friendly.  And there isn’t a wiki entry on it that I could spot.  I think this would be a case for a feature request.

One short term option is to try searching the files via a file manager/search utility on your local machine- that might be a quick way to do it in the meantime.

Nice to see we are discussing the same !

    I agree…

I think this would be a case for a feature request.

Then today wille my FR-day, with a third one.

    More seriously:

One short term option is to try searching the files via a file manager/search utility on your local machine- that might be a quick way to do it in the meantime.

Yes, that is what I did. And my concern is that I did not found anything.

Since first message I search in a dump of the database. And i found: that is in the exp_member_groups table, original parameter from installation.

    As a provisional conclusion:

1/ Many people already faced the same: to find in which tables there are some labels to translate. Is there any page in the KB where it is documented ? (I am going to search).
If not how to share experience from members who worked on the pb as I am Going to do ?

2/ My first question about the map is still open and I think it would be helpful for make localization easier.

Do you share my view ?

I just found that in the file lang.core.php the label “Banned”, “Pending”, etc are translated.
I don’t know where they are used and wonder why the same are also included in the database

Those are the built-in membership groups for banned users and users that have been registered but not yet approved/moved to an appropriate group.

    Ok.
But why same data in the file for translation and in the database, even for different purpose ?
If the right process is to translate the file lang php file, however I never get a complete translated site if some other parts remains in the database.

    Additional information.

Trying to translate the “My Account” label in the “Private Message” option in the “My Account” tab.

If you have a look you will it is displayed as “Myaccount” in this option while in all the other options it is displayed as “My Account”

All “My Account” are right translated but when I am looking for “Myaccount” in the language files or in the database I can’t find anything?

    Any idea ?
