ZenPress port ... Is this extension / plugin doable?

    Hey guys,

I bought a personal license last week and am anxious to get going on a remake of my personal site. I have a good feel for what EE can do now, and I LOVE the way weblogs work. Admittedly, I haven’t looked much into making extension/plugins yet, but I wanted to pass this idea in front of the community first to see if EE’s API would allow for it.

On my project I will be moving from Wordpress to EE ... and I’m looking forward to using EE’s gallery. Previously I used ZenPhoto which served me well, I have no complaints. One nicety of ZenPhoto was that there was a Wordpress plugin written for it to streamline the posting of thumbnails from my gallery to my posts. The plugin, ZenPress, is one that I would love to see in EE.

I’m wondering based on the attached pics, if EE would easily allow me to develop an extension / plugin and place it similarly to ZenPress on the publish page along with the other quick buttons.

That said, is there something out there that already does what I want?

Have you looked at the gallery module?

I have! But so far as i can tell the gallery module doesn’t provide any means of posting thumbnail image links to (1+) gallery images out of the box.

I’m familiar with creating custom weblogs that have “gallery data fields” (not sure what you’d call them) ... but even that sort of seems awkward. Images in posts are something I ‘might’ like to take advantage of, but I can’t see creating a special weblog for it. (yet at least) And I don’t think it would be as flexible if i did. How many gallery field links do i code in? What if i want more later? How do you decide placement in the text?

The ZenPress module is just for quickly browsing all galleries and dynamically building the code to display a thumbnail (linked) in the post ... thats all I need.

My real question though is about being able to place the button where I would want it, is there a hook into that?

Anyone at all familiar enough with the API to answer this? I’m asking about the ability to hook into the button bar and add a button. Is this easily done?

I have but I cant find where I’d be able to hook into there. Any leads? Confirmation that its possible would be reassuring.

Sorry, I don’t know about that. I do recall seeing a thread about modifying the entry screen tags, though I haven’t found it yet in my search.

This might be better asked in the Extensions forum.
