For many years I’ve gotten by on developing sites with HTML and SSI, and it served my needs well.  Now that I’m trying to use ExpressionEngine, and have an impending deadline, I can’t help but feel totally lost.

Where do you start when creating an ExpressionEngine site?  What is your process?  Do you start with a design and then go from there?

I have an outline that explains what goes where and what template it will use, but I’m lost on what to do next.  I have the data for much of the user-contributed content (1000+ entries), but am stumbling on how to display it.

Any direction would be greatly appreciated!

heh… EE newbies and deadlines don’t mix well… I’ve experienced that sting personally, so I sympathize.

First, check out these “Getting Started” resources:

    1. Video Tutorials - http://expressionengine.com/tutorials/video/
    2. Getting Started - http://expressionengine.com/docs/overview
    3. Quick Start Tutorial - http://expressionengine.com/docs/quick_start/

I tend to design the pages as I would with a static, XHTML/CSS standalone website, and then plug in the EE tags.
