    Hello,

First of, it has been a pleasure for myself as a designer to have such a powerful system to work with. I feel like I have all the tools for any job at my disposal, just a matter or learning each one, and the forums are a tremendous help!

I’ve been fine up until now when I have a special request from a client. They would like a secure form which sends credit card details but they would like the information from the form to be stored into a database for future use. E.g. mailouts etc

I’ve done a fair share of searching but i’m afraid this is a bit over my head at this point of my learning curve. I think i’ll be fine with the setting up the form with a secure certificate on the domain etc, it’s just the storing of information into the database i can see myself having trouble with.

Can someone push me in the right direction?

    Thanks

There’s a third party module called FreeForm available from Solspace that will do it for you.  Very slick for when you need extended capabilities.

Word of warning, though- I personally wouldn’t store cc info- at least not the full card number.  I know there are certain legalities involved, at least in the US.  And it would scare the crap out of me.  That’s not an EE thing, just a general thing.

If this was anything else, I’d say go for it and do the best you can to make it work, but when it comes to payment processing using credit cards, I caution you to consider either a) referring the work to someone who has experience with this or b) use a tool like PayPal where all of the security measures have been taken and they have experience with millions and millions of transactions.

The Simple Commerce Module works nicely with PayPal. I don’t know what exactly this project requires, but I would explore alternatives if you’re not knowledgeable in the area of online payments.

Thanks guys for your replies, will definately look into this more. I think maybe i’ll look at storing everything but credit card numbers into a database for security reasons.

But is it ok to send a credit card number over the net if you had just a secure certificate on the domain? or would you still suggest not to do it and look into other methods?

    Much appreciated!

I’d agree with Ryan’s advice. When in doubt, use a payment processor.
