Yes, you can find it in the hosted trial at http://expressionengine.com/sales/try.

Why is it necessary to demo the photo gallery in a hosted setting I honestly don’t want to go through that much trouble to see if it will meet my needs.
Thank you.

EE provides a couple of ways to allow folks to check things out- depending on their needs and desires. The easiest way is to check out the demo control panel- you can find it on the ‘try it’ page Lisa linked to. Granted, it’s a limited test, but if you go into ‘Modules- Photo Gallery’ you can get a feel for the gallery control panel. Reading over the gallery documentation will further give you an idea of what the gallery can and can’t do.
The next easiest thing to do is sign up for the hosted demo- that will allow you to actually try out the gallery before making a commitment.
Also- feel free to ask here if you have specific needs in mind- we can help you figure out whether the gallery will meet your needs.

Thanks Robin. Quite honestly I don’t feel I should have to pay 10 dollars to preview a feature of a software package that I am consdering purchasing. I want to be able to have a demo ready to go that I can show potential clients that I would propose using EE to. Also I would want to direct potential clients to the EE site for the demo so that they could “easily” explore the product for themselves.

Quite honestly, I don’t see any other way. They certainly can’t afford to let you download the full package with all the for-pay modules. So, toying with EE Core should give you a very good idea. If that’s not enough, investing 10$ - which will be refunded in case you buy - seems like an acceptable price to me.

It would be very useful for people to see a front end demo at least - out of the box style - with a few sample categories and photos…

I agree with this. I am not asking to download it so I can install it and play with it. I simply want to see or demo it for a client. At least show me how the darn thing works, how it displays the images, how smooth the slide show option is, does it even have a slide show etc etc? The way I see it currentl I don’t know how I would ever present this as an option to a client unless I charged them 10 bucks to consider if this is the photo gallery option they are looking for.

Nicko,
The Photogallery for EE is just a waste of time until its further developed (at this point coppermine and gallery 2 are better). I am integrating EE with Photopost, which lets you add, rate, search, and set permissions of membergroups right out of the box.
If you want to see the EE photogallery in action check out

It’s interesting how you can say that without knowing Nicko’s requirements.
I’ve used the EE photo gallery on several sites. No, it’s not as fully advanced as other gallery tools but having it integrated with EE alone makes it useful for many purposes.

We maintain a list of some examples of the Gallery: Photo Gallery Showcase
This doesn’t give you a demo of the backend, but it does show that you can do some great things with it.

i think the problem here is you are wanting to see a front end / user viewed demo of the photo gallery and EE prides itself on facilitating the creation of your desired look and feel. in other words you would not just install the photo gallery module and use it as is you would apply your own styles using css to make it look like you want it to. It really is a great tool. But if you are wanting a plug and play kinda thing with no set up, no styling and available templates then you probably are better off with a coppermine type set up. But the world is your oyester if you use EE.

I agree with what you’re saying but it’s sometimes reassuring to just try something as it comes “out of the box” - styled or not. I find it useful to see how the default setting works and behaves, and this gives me a good idea of how much modification I would have to do to meet the requirements of the site I was building.
Several other gallery systems have been mentioned in this thread - all have front end demos you can try out for size. The showcase is great to look at but some developers like to see both the “before and after” so they can think about how they need to develop their site.
Nicko - EE’s gallery system is very flexible indeed and can be adapted to suit most needs. It doesn’t claim to be a “full” gallery system like the others, think more of it as a system to allow you to display categorised media in whatever style you wanted.
Just my 2p’s worth.

Well take a look at this. The image is merely a placeholder so you can see how images are displayed…

I completly understand your point of view. I too like to see before and afters. I will say that in this case I think it is quite a bit easier to implement than with some other systems that require templating knowledge. In this case you would add a dash of CSS and the CMS does a good portion of the work for you…

Thanks for posting that Marcus, Nicko might find that useful…
I have myself worked with EE gallery on a site I’ve just done, though I didn’t get that much of a chance to go to town on it as the site was a “quickie” as the client needed something “yesterday”! As with everything EE once you have grasped how EE works the possibilities are endless.
I’m also playing with EE Core for an update to my own site, even making simple gallery with that was surprisingly easy - it took me about 10 minutes
